I agree. If you have three sevens and a six your semester average should be a "high distinction" (7) not a "distinction" (6.75)

So you're proposing using Mode rather than Medians? So a student who gets 3 7's and a 4, should still have a GPA 7? I call fail.

@Anonymous (23/6): The GPA is calculated using the mean, not median and I think the OP is suggesting using the mean of the grade, instead of the mean of the grade point (so your example would give around a 5 or 6 depending on exact grade percentages). After all if a 7 is >= 75% and your average grade over all is 78%, shouldn't your average Grade Point be a 7, not a 6.x? If a grade point is an integer representation of your subject grade, the GPA should be an integer representation of your average grade.

GPA should be calculated by using the total percentage earnt in each subject instead of using the average grade point.

@ 24/6 9am - I think so too. GPA should be based on your average grade over all of your subjects. That's what I read the original poster to mean.

Then everybody would have a high GPA! Yay! There would be plenty of point in having a GPA at all. This idea just isn't very good.

@11:06 - why would everyone have a high GPA? Everyone would get the grade point that represents their average grade. Or, introduce decimal Grade Points into subjects (so 100% = 7, 92.5% = 6.5 not 7).

Why not get rid of Grade Points all together, and just have our actual grade shown - employers probably understand 82% more than they understand a 6!

you don't know what the hell you are talking about
Posted by: Anonymous on 25 Jun 12:12
Then why don't you enlighten us?
Posted by: Anonymous on 29 Jun 00:06
We should get rid of GPA's on our academic record and just show the grade for each subject (with its credit points to indicate weight)

^ I mean the grade as in percentage, not grade point.
